Agape Meal Program

Scripture:  “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me to drink.”      Matthew 25:35

MissionTo provide meals to the people who come to the Agape Center. We are part of a network that provides a meal on the 5th Thursday of the month, which is 4 times a year.

Vision:  To give parishioners an opportunity to follow the command to “feed the poor.”

The meal that we provide includes hamburgers in gravy, noodles, jello, and cupcakes for those in need at the Agape Meal Center on 43rd and Kaul Ave. Members prepare the food at home, bring it to the Church Hall between 2-3pm on the serving day and then transport it to the Agape Meal Center. Members also help serve the food at the center and clean up afterwards.

History of AGAPE Meal Program

Have you noticed the bulletin and website references to the AGAPE Meal Program?
Do you wonder what that is?

Our parish history with the AGAPE (means Thanksgiving) program began almost 40 years ago when the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother asked parishioners to provide a meal every 5th Thursday of the month for the people in the neighborhood of 43rd Street and Kaul Avenue.  A parishioner stepped forward, found a crew of 25 to cook and bake, and so it began.  The meal includes Salisbury Steak patties, gravy, noodles, jello, cupcakes, coffee, and mike.  About 50 to 70 adults and children are fed three evenings a week throughout the year through this program.  Sixteen congregations are involved with teh AGAPE program.  Blessed Savior volunteers take part in the program following the call of scripture to "Feed the Hungry"

The food is brought to the West campus school kitchen, packed, and brought to the AGAPE Community Center in the Berryland Housing Project.  Two or more volunteers stay and help serve the people of the neighborhood who come for hte meal.

If you feel the call to stewardship in this area, please call the Parish office (414-464-5033) for mor information.
